What is the official API?
Whilst the regular WhatsApp app is intended for personal use, the Business API is built for businesses that want to communicate at scale and reliably. Messages officially run through Meta's servers, with approved templates for outgoing communication.
Coexistence: you keep your number and your app
With coexistence mode, your number runs simultaneously on the WhatsApp Business app and the official API. So you simply continue messaging one-to-one as always, whilst your assistant works alongside officially.
What do you need?
- A phone number (your existing number is possible, thanks to coexistence)
- A Meta Business Manager in your company's name
- One-off Meta Business verification (KvK or equivalent)
What does it cost?
Replies to incoming customer messages (within 24 hours) are free with Meta until 30 September 2026. From 1 October 2026, the first 1,000 per number per month are free; above that, you pay per message (in the Netherlands approximately 4 cents).
