Both let you try out requests live. The Playground is a bit more flexible and focused on experimenting and comparing scenarios side by side, whilst Swagger mainly documents the complete API clearly.
Will I touch my real data with the Playground?
Only if you want to. If you enable the sandbox, you experiment completely safely without consequences for your live data.
